Custom Made Blinds in Sydney

Material World has been making blinds for Sydney homes for more than 25 years. Every blind is measured, made and installed for your windows specifically — no off-the-shelf sizes, and no asking you to fit them yourself.

Our decorators come to you anywhere across Sydney, bring the samples to your living room, and quote on the spot in the light your blinds will actually hang in. It's free, and there's no obligation to proceed.

How it works

  1. Book a free measure and quote. Choose a time that suits you, including Saturdays.
  2. We visit your home. Our decorator measures every window, shows you fabrics and finishes against your walls and floors, and advises on the right blind for each room.
  3. We make your blinds. Cut, assembled and finished to your measurements.
  4. We install them. Our own installers fit everything and take the packaging away.

Blind styles we make

  • Roller blinds — the most versatile choice, in sunscreen, light filtering or blockout fabrics. Sunscreen keeps the view and cuts glare; blockout suits bedrooms and media rooms. Dual roller systems combine both on one bracket.
  • Roman blinds — soft folds in curtain fabric, giving the warmth of a curtain in the neat footprint of a blind. Well suited to kitchens, studies and windows where floor-length curtains won't work.
  • Venetian blinds — timber, faux timber and aluminium slats, for precise control over light and privacy. Faux timber handles bathrooms and kitchens where real timber would warp.
  • Vertical blinds — practical for wide windows and sliding doors, where the vanes stack neatly aside.
  • Panel glides — broad fabric panels that slide across large expanses of glass. A clean, modern alternative for patio doors and floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Honeycomb and cellular blinds — a honeycomb structure that traps air, adding genuine insulation against Sydney's summer heat and winter chill.
  • Plantation shutters — hinged timber, PVC or aluminium panels that become part of the room itself. Durable, easy to clean, and a strong choice for street-facing windows.
  • Outdoor and external blinds — for verandahs, balconies and alfresco areas, extending the time of year those spaces are comfortable.

Choosing the right blind for the room

Bedrooms usually call for blockout roller or honeycomb blinds. Living areas often work best with sunscreen rollers or romans, keeping the outlook while softening afternoon glare. Kitchens and bathrooms suit faux timber venetians or easy-clean rollers. West-facing rooms benefit most from honeycomb, which reduces heat as well as light. If you're unsure, the in-home appointment is exactly where this gets worked out.

Motorisation

Most blinds can be motorised on Somfy or Silent Gliss systems, operated by remote, wall switch, app or voice, and set to open and close on a schedule. Particularly worth considering for tall windows, stairwells, skylights and banks of windows you'd otherwise adjust one at a time. Motorisation also removes cords, which matters in homes with young children.

Fabrics and finishes

We hold one of Sydney's largest window furnishing ranges, including Warwick, Zepel, James Dunlop, Casamance, Wortley and Laura Ashley, alongside specialist blind fabrics and hardware from Silent Gliss and Somfy. Because we're a fabric business as well as a blind maker, you're choosing from hundreds of options rather than a handful of samples.
